The 'class' of 2019 win again

Outpacing and outpointing a really good Perthshire 2s

A quick look back to last week before we review this week's awesomeness!

Last week our Super 6s played our Fab 5s and came away with a win. It was a terrifically tense and high quality match, which neither side really deserved to win by a large margin as both teams we very evenly matched. Safe to say that the future of hockey in Dundee, and our Club in particular, is safe in the hands of all the boys that played last week.

This week was a very similar challenge for our Super 6s. Like our 5s squad; Perth 2s were well-organised, well-trained, individually skillful and playing with deserved confidence (following a 9-0 win over one of the Wanderers' teams).

As in previous weeks, we have benefited from consistency in our matchday squads. The boys and their adult supporters have really committed to playing 6s hockey this year and each player has brought more and more to the games as the season has progressed. With Craig and Ian at the helm, steering the team on and off the pitch, the boys have had an awesome journey so far, with more to come...we hope!

Today's match was, to my wonky rugby eye, the best the team has played this season. They have most definitely gelled into a tough challenge for any team that comes up against them. They played with great tempo today. Their movement around the pitch and the speed at which they pinged the ball to each other was incredible. In attack, they were creative and in defence, they were gnarly! Their stick skills are fantastic and their tactical knowledge is growing exponentially.

The 6s are a little bit older than the 5s, man-for-man, but we must remember that they are still young players who are learning the game. It is easy to forget this when you see them play with such maturity and discipline. Each one listens to Craig and Ian's advice and follows that advice to great effect.

The Roll of Honour today is:

- Goal 1 - Ian jumping on the ball following a penalty corner. Tight control and deadly accuracy.
- Goal 2 - Sam carrying the ball to right D and slotting home from a ridiculously tight angle.
- Goal 3 - Craig won the ball in deep left D, and following a 1-2, got it back before rounding the keeper. Great close control and accuracy.
- Goal 4 - Goal for Sam following a really slick counter-attack from our own D (after having defended a Perth penalty corner against us).
- Goal 5 - A treble for Sam! Brilliant pick-up in midfield. Crazy skill to get into the D. 'Keeper had no chance!

Mentions in Dispatches:

- Craig and Ian. Really, really, really great Coaches and mentors for the boys. I'm fortunate to see how they work with the players before, during and after each match. They challenge the boys, sure, but, they do it brilliantly by setting them realistic personal and team goals. They have 100% trust from the players which is evident in how the squad has come together both on and off the pitch this season. They have my vote, if there's one, for Player/Coaches of the Season.

-'Team Chapman' for running the desk today. Thank you Ladies. You're awesome too!

Man of the Match - Andrew Kyle

Outstanding stuff once again from the coolest kid on the pitch! Skillful, tenacious, disciplined and creative - and he's a Defender!!!!!! Wowza!

Final Score - Win - 5-3

Simply Awesome!!

Next match will be against Harris 3s on Sunday 3 February with an 1110 meet (whaaaatttt????) for a 1210 PB. See you soon guys.
