The final game of the programme down at the Dawson cage saw the men’s first team take on last year’s third place finishers, Edinburgh University.
It was a slightly nervy start by both sides before the visitors drew first blood with a tidy PC finish. The minutes that proceeded saw the students have a couple of good chances to double their lead, one strike rattling Stevie’s crossbar.
As the next two quarters commenced, the Hill grew into the game and started to enjoy more of the possession and created chances of their own. With a full complement of players for the fixture, the home side could go toe to toe with a fit and energetic student side moving between different presses and shapes worked on during pre season. An honourable mention to Scott Fraser for Bryan McGarrity not getting any playing minutes on the day, but very much a part of the group.
In rolled the last quarter, still 1-0 to the away side but heads didn’t drop and after a reprieve for back stick strike it was the Hill that had the last laugh. Alfie Bonnar was the day’s hero for the boys in blue, neatly finishing a well orchestrated move down the left and rescuing a hard earned point.
Both sides had chances on the day and the draw probably a fair result on reflection. Next week the men’s 1st team will be on the road again to take on the Grange.
