Attacking display makes Harris consolation academic

The Men’s 3s extended their unbeaten run to three games with this commanding win over Harris 2s.

The quality of some of their play in the first half of the match was excellent and their superior fitness was a telling factor throughout.
Kenny Watson was able to call on a healthy squad of 15, thanks in part to the 2s’ match being cancelled. 2s players Finlay Ross, Findlay Duncan, Alfie Bonnar & Murdo Kiddie were all selected.

Grove Menzieshill started the match strongly and opened the scoring within 5 minutes. Edward Cooper showed some great skill on the left and found Brian McGarrity whose shot came off a Harris foot for a short corner. Scott Fraser injected, Shaan Afzal stopped and SHAUN CRAIG scored.

On 11 minutes, it was 2-0. Findlay Duncan surged out of defence and found Scott Fraser on the right. Scott dribbled into the D and passed to Murdo Kiddie whose shot was saved by the Harris keeper. Luckily, RICHIE BAIN was on hand to convert at the second attempt.

Grove Menzieshill continued to dominate in the second quarter and were unlucky not to make it 3-0 when a shot destined for the net was deflected over the bar by a Harris defender’s hand. However, this was a temporary let-off for Harris when another well-worked short corner paid dividends on 33 minutes. Another Scott Fraser injection and Shaan Afzal stop was sent goalbound by Shaun Craig and STEVEN ROME was lurking at the back post to steer home.

The third quarter was disappointing, with the leaders losing shape and concentration and letting Harris back into the game. This continued into the final quarter, despite coach Kenny’s best efforts to restore focus at the break. Ultimately, it would lead to a Harris goal on the hour mark. Some careless play in midfield allowed Harris to break. There was a hint of a foot but no whistle and the Harris player ran through and knocked the ball past Finlay Ross to make it 3-1.

This seemed to galvanise Grove Menzieshill however, and Harris were unable to build on their goal. For the rest of the game, the leaders dominated and could have had at least another 4 goals, with Liam Stuart coming close on two occasions. However, STEVEN ROME capped a fine performance two minutes from the end after some great play from Murdo Kiddie. Murdo’s pass was perfectly weighted and allowed Steven to set himself and make it 4-1.

A comfortable win in the end, but one which could’ve been more emphatic if levels hadn’t dropped in the third quarter.
