Last weeks’ defeat to Dundee Uni was a distant memory by the end of the first quarter in this convincing win over Harris 2s.
Acting coach Kyle Moir was spoiled for choice with a squad of 17 players. Plenty of cover in midfield, on the wings and in attack meant rolling subs and that was key to a dominant display.
Kyle started himself and Liam Stuart up front and this was to prove fruitful within 4 minutes. A high ball into the D saw LIAM unmarked at the back post and he lifted his stick above his head to calmly knock the ball into the net. 1-0 to ‘Hill. On 11 minutes, it was 2-0. Throughout the afternoon, there was more zip to ‘Hill’s short corners and a fast delivery from Shaan Afzal was fired high into the net by ALISTAIR CLARK.
The second quarter started as the first had ended with the home team continuing to press and probe. They had to wait until the 26th minute for a goal though, when ALISTAIR CLARK despatched another short corner in a carbon copy of his first goal. 3-0 ‘Hill.
Xander Swan was cursing the cold afternoon as he had little to do, although he was called into action close to half time to make a clearance. Normal service was then resumed when good link-up play was rewarded with a goal, OWEN HUTCHINSON getting on the scoresheet with a fine flick at the back post. Half time 4-0 to ‘Hill.
‘Hill let the intensity drop in the third quarter and there was little of interest to report, apart from Xander’s one other clearance of the match. Coach Kyle rallied the troops ahead of the final quarter, stating the importance of going for the jugular when on top. This seemed to have the desired effect as ‘Hill went up a gear. Fresh legs made the difference and the home team took control of the midfield once more, with Scott Fraser, Richie Bain & Alistair Clark rotating to maintain ‘Hill’s dominance. The wingers never stopped running at the Harris defence, with Brian McGarrity & Ptolemy Goad on the left and Owen Hutchinson & Marcus Cosgrove on the right.
There was an air of inevitability about more goals and they duly arrived, both courtesy of ALISTAIR CLARK, one a well worked field goal and the other from a short corner.
Harris were relieved to hear the full time whistle and 6-0 didn’t flatter ‘Hill in what was a commanding victory.
