Having played Madras once in the league this season, we knew we were in for a tough match. The last outing was a 5-1 win for Madras but we were ready to put in a strong performance having been disappointed with the last result. Our first penalty corner of the game demonstrated our intent. The ball was injected out by Maia to Abbey W and she made no mistake of striking the ball into the goal. A great start to the first quarter and really lifted the players. There was some excellent passing around the back and into the midfield from the back 4. The midfield and forward lines were working hard to create space and this pressure paid off when Abbey W threw an aerial that Iona picked up. She took the ball into the left hand side of the D and reverse hit the ball across the goal where Abbie C was there to deflect the ball into the goal. Strong performance in the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter we allowed Madras back into the game and the defending penalty corner team, led by Zoe, did a great job of keeping making key saves and blocks to maintain the lead. We picked the game up in the 3rd quarter and were rewarded with 2 penalty corners in quick succession. On the 2nd one, a defender stopped the ball illegally on the line and Abbey stepped up to score from the penalty spot. There were impressive performances throughout the team and it was a well deserved victory. Cup Final will be at the end of April, scheduled for 25th April.
