Our second league match of the season got underway at Dalnacraig and from the start it was end to end hockey. Wanderers got the first penalty corner of the match and a good save by Zoe and a clearance by Katie kept us in the game. We started to string passes together and created opportunities and this was rewarded with a PC for us. A good routine involving Bella, Ali and Pat led to a shot followed by another PC resulting in a good save by the GK. Having worked on the press at training, it was good to see us winning a lot of ball from this. Abbie, Maia and Lottie all winning balls from Wanderers hit outs. In the second quarter we continued to press forward and good work by Rachel led to another PC followed quickly by another one. At the other end Heather, running out at corners, made a great block and clearance. It was 0 - 0 at half time but there was a real determination to keep creating opportunities, keep winning corners and the goals would come. The 3rd quarter did not disappoint, a great pass from Phoebe found Maia at the top of the D and she rolled around the defender and put a cracking reverse stick hit past the GK into the goal. Wanderers finished the quarter pressing hard for an equaliser but great defensive work by everyone meant we were still in the lead going into the last quarter. We had talked about the importance of outcomes in the D and when Phoebe received a pass from Aoife, she won us our first PC of the last quarter. Maia injecting, Ali stopping and a great strike right into the corner by Pat gave us the 2-0 lead and it was the final score. Good to get our first win in the league. Big improvements on the press, won more corners in comparison to last week and better outcomes in the attacking D. Still lots to work on but moving in the right direction. Well done #mightytwos
