We all knew that this was going to be a tough match for the #mightytwos but we were looking forward to the challenge. In fact, in the first quarter it was us who took the lead with a great interchange of passes between Maia and Phoebe. Maia found a through ball to Phoebe who then passed it across the GK where Maia had continued her run to put the ball into the goal. It was then end to end hockey with some impressive passing phases. The 2nd quarter got underway with a fast and skilful St Andrews putting us under pressure. Although there was some excellent defending, St Andrews found a way through with a well taken shot from top of D and a pass to the back post to make it 1 - 2 at half time. We were determined to get back into the game and although we were under quite a bit of pressure, the defence of Zoe, Katie, Ali, Bella and Lottie were just as determined to keep them out. Zoe made some outstanding saves and the defensive penalty corner team made blocks, saves and clearances to keep St As from going further ahead. Meanwhile at the other end, our midfield and forwards continued to create opportunities. Two penalty corners were won and we were unlucky not to score from a left slip to Abi who fired it into the back post. In the final quarter, the defensive work throughout the whole team was impressive and when Ali won the ball just outside our D, she found a long ball through to Sophie (playing her first match for the club). She dribbled forward from the half way line and gave a perfect pass to Abbie who had made the run high into the D. Abbie took a great first touch then fired it into the goal. We were denied another goal by a good save by the GK when Lil was at the back post for a tap in. The draw was a big step forward from where we were last season against this team. A good team performance and a result we can be proud of. Keeping moving forward #mightytwos
