Grove Menzieshill Athill U15s win!
On Saturday with an early start to the day, and a finish to the indoor season, our talented squad of U15s faced the best of Scottish school and club sides at the HPC indoor invitational tournament.
With 5 pool games to navigate before the final, our boys had to consistently perform to qualify in the top two positions to contest the trophy decider.
Game one was a tough game against Strathallan and an Aaron Watt goal was enough for us to start the day with a win.
Next up, Uddingston and an inspired Scotland goalkeeper, but it wasn’t enough to stop our boys winning 3-0 with Murray, Aaron and Finlay scoring.
The local derby against Wanderers’s was a stuffy affair, and our opposition raised their game to try and stop our momentum, but goals from Finlay, Aaron and Brian was enough for a 3-0 victory.
Watsonians were defeated 4-0 with scores from Murdo, Scott F, Alfie and Aaron, moving ever closer to the final.
In our last pool game against Western, the boys didn’t disappoint, and with them gaining in confidence every game, the boys put together a convincing 7-1 win with Finlay and Murdo scoring a double. Aaron, Ollie H and Edward also on the score sheet. Confidence was high going into the Final.
The final was against Strathallan again, who went unbeaten after our first game of the tournament.
Coach Chris had instilled a disciplined but positive and entertaining brand of hockey all day, and with some final tweaks to counter any threat from Strath, our boys went on to dominate the final with Finlay scoring all four goals in a 4-2 victory.
A fantastic team spirit from all our players, coaches and supporters saw the boys lift the trophy to take back to Dundee.
Well done all!
