There were 8 teams competing from East, West and Midland Districts in 2 sections of 4.

Our first match was at 9am and the last match at 4pm so it was a long day for the girls and for many of our players it was their first indoor tournament.

The first section game was against Strathallan. We started well and played some great passing hockey that resulted in an early goal from Aoife. Katie then added a second from a penalty corner. We were going from strength to strength and Maia added 2 more goals to give us a 4-0 lead at half time. The second half was impressive showing hard work, determination and team work all contribute to a good performance. Isla scored an excellent goal followed by 2 more from Katie. A 7-0 victory in our first match was a real confidence boost to the team with everyone contributing to the team success.

Next up was AW Performance 2s from East District. Our Captain for the day Katie put us ahead with a great run from left back to baseline on the right-hand side and scoring from a tight angle. This was always going to be a competitive match and AW scored quickly to even the score. Maia then scored a double to put us 3 - 1 up with two brilliant goals after some good passing out from the back by Eesha and Katie. AW came out strong in the second half and managed to score two to make it a draw at full time.

Going into our final group match against Western Wildcats, we knew that we needed to win and score quite a few goals in order to give us a chance of making the final. We were guaranteed a 3rd/4th play off by winning but goal difference would determine who got into the final. The girls rose to this challenge and the performance just got better and better. Maia score 2 and Aoife 1 to make it 3-0 at half time. We knew that would not be enough so the players through everything at it. Maia scored 3 in the second half and Katie got 1. Final score was 7-0 with Maia scoring an impressive 5. We had put ourselves in a good position and now we had to watch AW v Strathallan. AW needed ten clear goals to make the final; 9 goals would take it to a penalty shoot-out to play in the final against Dollar. AW won their game 7-0 and so the U14 Grovies had reached the final.

Aoife gave us a great start by being on the end of a great passing move involving three players before Aoife scored. Dollar were a strong team and although the defending was impressive both in open play and corners, it was not long until they scored. At 1-1 the match went from end to end but Dollar eventually won the match 4-1. Although disappointed the girls have much to be proud about. Their performance throughout the day was impressive and scoring 18 goals in 4 matches was testament to the excellent team work. Maia was announced as one of the players of the tournament and it was great to see the girls picking up their silver medals.

Well done to Bethany, Katie, Eesha, Maia, Aoife, India, Isla, Sharon, Jessica and of course all the parents who came along for the day and cheered the team on. Very much appreciated.
