Intra Club Tussle

A fine day for hockey at Dawson Park.

Both sides started well with some nice interplay. The 2nds took time to settle into their rhythm. Too many long balls and some lack of finesse on the ball.

Two goals (1st minute and 16th minute of 1st quarter) from birthday boy Murdo Kiddie, with a new wand, settled the team down. The effort from our forwards from the start was much improved compared to last week. Aaron Watts covered a lot of ground with strong leads thrown in.

The third goal came in the second quarter from a glancing blow from Dylan Lothian. Some resolute defending from the 3rds kept further incursions into the D from the scoresheet. The basics were starting to improve and this led to better quality all round.

A further goal after half time came after a strong drive down the left. Aaron Watts thought he had put his name on the score sheet until Murray Griffiths got a final touch just on the line to claim the score. Alfie Bonnar and Gav Tomlinson controlled the tempo in the middle of the park. Clear direction from our senior players settled the team down and gave them confidence to put training ground work into practice.

The final quarter brought some excellent hockey against a tiring 3rds defence. Our attacks down the right became repetitive, starting off with Chris Bonnar and Jonnie Lothian. Alistair Clark worked well with Aaron Watts to set up multiple opportunities. Significant improvement and concentration compared to the same part of the match last week.

Three goals came in the quarter from Findlay Duncan, Murray Griffiths and finally Aaron Watts. It is important to point out several excellent saves from the 3rds keeper as well.

A tough call from man of the match, there were some strong performances. However, Murdo Kiddie and Alistair Clark share the honour this week. Both worked hard to improve after last week and the whole team should be proud of the performance, as should our opponents.
