A Good Start to the Cup Campaign

The Ladies 2s gathered at a sunny Dawson Park to play Stirling University 2s in the first game of the Midland League Cup. It was a much changed side from last year with players making their step up from Ladies 3s last year. And a much changed side from the previous week too when so many of the 2s had stepped up to play in the Borders for a very depleted Ladies 1s team

So it was great to have a fuller squad once more! We were also delighted to welcome Linsey Congdon to the side bringing her experience to this young squad in the midfield/defence line. Due to injury the team however did not have any subs so it was a busy game for them all.

Both teams had a fast start with opportunities going forward. However Grove Menzieshill defence held firm with strong play from Ali and Gabi with new member Iona too. The midfield was held well by Linsey and Heather was able to make some good penetrating runs up towards the D. Freya was also floating into good space to receive passes and moving the ball forward. Grove Menzieshill were really on top for most of the half and finally got a goal with a very strong hit from Linsey which went flying into the goal.

The 2nd half continued where we'd left off and were finally rewarded with another goal after some goal line action with Emily C getting the final touch to put the ball away.

Due to the lack of subs, the team did start to tire and concentration started to waiver but they all dug in to ensure that they got the win.
